Make a scanned document searchable and selectable without changing how it looks.
What it does
It runs OCR on a scanned page or image and overlays an invisible, selectable text layer on top of the original image — so you can search and copy the text while the page looks unchanged.
How it works
- Upload a scanned PDF or an image (PNG/JPG/WebP).
- Zegi reads the text with OCR (English and Arabic) and aligns it to the page.
- Download a PDF that looks identical but is now searchable and copy-enabled.
Supported formats
Input: scanned PDF or image (PNG/JPG/WebP). Output: searchable PDF.
What you get
A PDF that looks like the original but contains a searchable, copyable text layer.
Important limitations
- Search accuracy depends on scan quality; faint or skewed pages reduce OCR accuracy.
- The visible page is kept as an image — this adds a text layer, it does not re-typeset the document.
Privacy & your files
Your files are processed on Zegi's own servers — never sent to a third-party AI service — and are removed automatically after processing. See our Privacy Policy and Data Retention Policy for details.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it support Arabic?
- Yes — the OCR text layer supports Arabic and English, including mixed-language pages.
- Will the document still look the same?
- Yes. The original page image is preserved; the text layer is invisible and sits on top, so the appearance doesn't change.
- Can I feed it an image instead of a PDF?
- Yes — upload a PNG, JPG or WebP and you'll get a searchable PDF back.
- Is there an API?
- Yes. See POST /api/v1/pdf/searchable in the API documentation.
