Convert a PDF into an editable Microsoft Word document you can open and change in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.
What it does
It rebuilds your PDF as a .docx file — extracting the text, paragraphs, tables and images and laying them out to resemble the original as closely as the source allows.
How it works
- Upload your PDF. Digital PDFs are read directly from their text layer; scanned or image-only PDFs are read with OCR (PaddleOCR, with Tesseract as a fallback).
- The layout engine detects paragraphs, tables and images and reconstructs them in Word format.
- Download the .docx and edit it in any word processor.
Supported formats
Input: PDF (digital or scanned). Output: Word .docx.
What you get
A single editable Word .docx file with selectable, searchable text.
Important limitations
- Complex or heavily designed layouts may not reproduce exactly — this is a faithful reconstruction, not a pixel-perfect copy.
- Scanned-PDF accuracy depends on the scan quality; OCR can make mistakes on low-resolution or noisy pages.
Privacy & your files
Your files are processed on Zegi's own servers — never sent to a third-party AI service — and are removed automatically after processing. See our Privacy Policy and Data Retention Policy for details.
Frequently asked questions
- Can it convert scanned PDFs?
- Yes. Scanned or image-only PDFs are processed with OCR so the resulting Word file contains real, editable text rather than a picture of the page.
- Does it support Arabic documents?
- Yes — Arabic and English text are supported, including mixed Arabic/English pages, with right-to-left text handled in the output.
- Will the layout match the original exactly?
- It aims to preserve paragraphs, tables and images, but intricate designs may shift. Treat the result as an editable starting point and review it.
- Is there an API for PDF to Word?
- Yes. Developers can call POST /api/v1/pdf/to-word with an API key. See the API documentation.
